In this bookwork each image is contained within a single page and faced with a silent unmarked page.

After two or three drawings, a spread with a single line -- a date -- punctuates the flow of images creating context and allowing a further pause for the viewer to absorb the “action” of the sequence, which might be said to be a progression of silences unto death.

My inspiration:

Making self portraits is an impulse that has recurred periodically over the years and the little blank accordion book in which the original drawings were made simply called out to me for that use.

The drawings of my father were made in response to the sadness and helplessness that I felt watching his daily diminishment.

Drawing him helped me to make some sense of what I was seeing and in the year after his death making the book gave me a task which became a tangible way of addressing my grief.
